If you are looking for your next binge worthy podcast - look no further.
I know this sounds weird, but Kara was one of my stand-in mother's when I first cut out my mother.
Her podcasts probably saved my life. Her topics, her way of explaining thought work, her ability to form an argument to help you understand a concept & then shift your mind is AWESOME. All in about 30 mins per episode.
Below I have given the links & her short descriptions for her TOP episodes (meaning the ones I loved the most) that helped with me toxic, trauma abuse recovery work when I was healing from a developmental trauma background. Her podcasts really helped me unplug & rewire a lot of dysfunctional & maladaptive thought processes I had about the world, other people, relationships & myself.
These are many of her early episodes from a few years ago. She now has over 300 episodes & is still exploring great topics that push you through healthy change & pivots.
Check our some of the ones below & explore further into her great work if you're struggling. She titles her podcasts in a really concise way, which I find helpful for cherry-picking what I want to listen to on any given day.
UFYB #148 - Intuition: "discover why the framing of intuition as something you use to categorize an experience doesn’t serve you, how it gets confused with feelings of anxiety, and the role of cognitive bias here. You need to examine the assumption that you should act on something without question if it’s coming from your intuition"
UFYB #150 - Compromise: "Women are socialized to compromise our needs and happiness behind the needs of family, friends, even strangers. At the same time, we’ve also experienced situations where compromise is helpful and growth-promoting. In this podcast episode, you will learn a few simple questions to ask yourself so that you will always know when to compromise and when to stand firm."
UFYB #141 - Closure: "what true closure is and how to get it. I’m outlining two things that many people believe will bring them closure if they had it, why these things are just lies our brains feed us, and the only thing that is really in your way of being happy right now."
UFYB #126 - Anxiety & Control: "Discover exactly why we get sucked into believing that we can control other people and external circumstances, and why letting it go is the only path to true freedom. Any feeling you want to have can be achieved by relinquishing the belief that you can or should be able to control anything outside of yourself."
UFYB #155 - Resourcefulness vs. Resourcelessness: "Do you know how to solve your own problems? Resourcefulness is one of the most important qualities you need to live an incredible life, but many of us have brains that just throw up their metaphorical hands and want to die whenever the smallest hurdle arises. Learn why resourcefulness is so important, and how you can develop this critical skill"
UFYB #87 - Loneliness: "Join me as I unravel the concept of loneliness and give you some new ways of thinking about it that will help you see the bigger picture. There are areas of this particular feeling that we're apt to misinterpret, so hopefully, this episode gives you some insight into how you might just be thinking about it in an unhelpful way."
UFYB #83 - The Thought Ladder & Thinking v. Believing - "As we try to change our results, we often try thinking new thoughts. I'm exposing why just thinking a new thought isn't going to have the same effect as truly believing it, and why this is crucial to grasp when you're working on your thought ladder."
UFYB #52 - Trust: "we take a deep dive into the topic of trust and explore the common misconceptions about it that are holding you back. After listening to this episode, I’d like for you to get curious about what trust really means for you and whether it’s necessary to have it for others at all."
